Autumn is here once again (although with a slight delay as always here in sunny Madrid) and so is the perfect weather to snuggle up under a blanket with a book. Amanda tagged me in the It’s Finally Fall Book Tag. Thank you, Amanda! For those of you who haven’t come across her blog before, she recently shared some very insightful tips for bloggers and writes great reviews so go and check out her blog! I am not sure who created this book tag but please comment if you know so I can link back to them.

I am excited to share with you some of my favourites perfect for rainy weather. Enjoy reading!

    Book Cover
I recently received The Coordinates of Loss as an ARC and was blown away by how well  the author handled the complex topic of grief.

FALL IS BACK TO SCHOOL SEASON | SHARE A NON-FICTION BOOK THAT TAUGHT YOU SOMETHING NEW.

    Book Cover
Quiet explores how introverts fit in our society and is a thought-provoking and extremely interesting book.

Studious Saturday: The Sunshine Blogger Award Part 2

Studious Saturday: The Sunshine Blogger Award book tag

    The Sunshine Blogger Award

Hi there and welcome to another Studious Saturday post! This one is another tag as I have been awarded the Sunshine Blogger Award again, this time by the lovely Hannah whose blog you should definitely hop over to! Thanks for the award, Hannah!

What is The Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to bloggers who are creative, positive, and inspiring. Once nominated, the blogger is required to write a post in which they:

    • Thank the blogger who nominated them and link back to their blog.

    • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated them.

    • Nominate 11 other blogs and give them 11 new questions to answer.

    • Notify your nominees and display the Sunshine Blogger Award in your post.

    studious saturdays

    1. Are you a pen and paper fan or do you prefer to type?
A bit of both. I prefer to get my thoughts down on paper first and have several notebooks where I jot down ideas but when it comes to writing posts I prefer to type.

    2. Are you an avid traveller or do you prefer to stay near home?
Definitely an avid traveller! My family is dispersed all over the world and I try to visit them as often as I can. When I can I also like to go away on city trips with my boyfriend and my group of friends. I’m a firm believer that life is not meant to be lived in one place and travelling is the best way to explore all the opportunities that life has to offer so I try to follow this principle as much as I can.

    3. What’s the first thing you do when you get home from a busy day?
Shower and change into something comfortable and then pick up my current book and read until I get tired!

    4. What’s your favourite comfort food and why?
Strawberries are my favourite food ever although I wouldn’t call it comfort food because they are healthy. After strawberries I would probably choose nice quality Belgium or Swiss chocolate because the flavour is incredible!

    5. What is your favourite genre to read and what would you like to read more of?
My favourite genre to read is mystery/thriller/crime but I am definitely trying to broaden my range out to contemporary fiction, historical fiction and humour/romance. I even tried Science Fiction a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it so I think I’ll continue to swap inbetween genres.

    6. If you could spend 24 hours anywhere and with anyone, where and who would it be and why?
I would get my whole family back to my hometown in Bulgaria and spend 24 hours with them. I still see them often but it’s been years since we have all managed to get together in the same place at the same time and it would be a day that I would treasure forever if it ever happens.

    7. How do you mark a page in your book? (Bookmark, random paper, folding pages, etc.)
I usually read books on my kindle so the page is automatically saved before I go back to the main screen.

    8. Who is your favourite Disney sidekick and why?
Simba from The Lion King! Although I guess not really a sidekick?

    9. What is your favourite recipe to make on a cold day?
Chicken soup! I make chicken soup when I’m cold, ill, upset, hungry… you name it! There was a period during last winter when I was constantly making chicken soup and did not regret it.

    10. What movie could you watch over and over again?
I could definitely watch The Parent Trap several times without getting tired of it. I loved this movie when I was younger and I still watch it every now and again.

    11. Who was your first celebrity crush?
I thought long and hard about this question but I don’t remember?! I have been in awe of Roger Federer for years but I wouldn’t call him my first celebrity crush but rather someone I really admire. I honestly don’t know!

    I nominate:

    Inge

    Stephen

    Jennifer

    Ellie

    Jasmine

    Kaleena

    Mandy

    Noriko

    Amanda

    Marta

    Dora

    My questions

    1. How and when did you get into blogging?

    2. Are there any films that you thought were better than the book?

    3. Paperbacks, hardbacks or ebooks?

    4. Do you exchange books with family and/or friends?

    5. Which setting of a book was so vivid that you still recall today?

    6. Which character can you imagine becoming your best friend if they were real?

    7. Do you prefer standalone books or those with sequels?

    8. Is there a time of year or certain periods when you read more?

    9. Share one of your favourite quotes of the book you are currently reading or have just finished reading.

    10. Do you ever skip to the last chapter to find out what happens?

    11. What is your favourite thing about the book blogging community?

Thanks once again to Hannah for the award! For those of you tagged please don’t feel obliged to answer my questions but if you decide to post, please tag me in it so I can read your answers! Have a great weekend!

Studious Saturday: The Sunshine Blogger Award

    The Sunshine Blogger Award

Many thanks to Beth at About a Book Club for tagging me! Go and check out her answers and hop over to her blog!

This Studious Saturday post will be a tag.

    • Thank the blogger who nominated them and link back to their blog.

    studious saturdays

Here are my answers to Beth’s questions:

    1) What has been your favourite book of the month so far?
I have to go for The Fix by David Baldacci. This book was published last year but I started reading it at the beginning of this month and finished it in 3 days. I love the Amos Decker series and highly recommend it to any readers who enjoy a fast-paced detective mystery.

    2) Name a book that you have recently bought solely from a blogger’s review.
I am currently reading The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers after buying it when I read Kristin‘s review and I’m really glad I did. It’s entertaining and adventurous and even though I don’t usually read Sci-Fi I’m really enjoying this one!

    3) Do you read multiple books at a time? Or just one?
I usually read just one on my kindle unless I also have a paperback that I’m also reading in which case I alternate between the two.

    4) Name a book that you were disappointed by/felt had been over-hyped.
I was disappointed by Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee. I expected another thought-provoking read with controversial topics discussed but I thought it was average and it left me feeling empty.

    5) Give an ‘unpopular opinion’ on a book/series that everyone else seems to love.
I don’t think that The Girl on the train by Paula Hawkins is as great as others make it out to be. It was interesting but I found it difficult to relate to the main character and follow the story line until the end.

    6) What book have you read the most times cover to cover?
I read To Kill a Mockingbird several times at school and also a few times afterwards as well and it never disappoints. It’s usually the first book I recommend to anyone who is looking to read a Classic.

    7) Favourite cover art of a book you own (include a picture, if you can!)
I love the cover of The Sisterhood. It’s a simple but beautiful design which also goes perfectly with the story:
    The Sisterhood

    8) Name a stand-alone book that you WISH had a sequel.
And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini

    9) What setting of a book would you love to visit?
I’d love to visit the circus described in The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. There would be so much to explore!

    10) Name something that bugs you about the book blogging community.
I would say the international blogger debate. I have seen so many discussions lately on this and I can relate to many points made.

    11) Name something you LOVE about the book blogging community.

I love how inclusive and welcoming the community is. We all have different tastes in reading depending on age, genre, location etc. but we also all share our love of books and it’s so wonderful how book bloggers are always so supportive and helpful.

    I nominate:

    Recipe and a Read

    Umut Reviews

    Excuse my reading

    Drizzle and Hurricane Books

    Books and Dachschunds

    Books and Me!

    Brunching Bookworms

    Not-so-modern Girl

    Bookathon

    Between the Pages

    Dee Reads Things

    My questions:

    1. What was your favourite book when you were a child?

    2. Name a book that you wish was made into a film/series.

    3. Do you prefer to buy or borrow books? Why?

    4. What language do you prefer reading in?

    5. How do you get over a reading slump?

    6. What would you say to your favourite author if you ever get the chance to meet him/her?

    7. Name a character that you feel could have been developed more.

    8. Which book that you read this year has pleasantly surprised you?

    9. Share a quote that you like from the book you are currently reading.

    10. Imagine that you meet your favourite character by chance. How do you react?

    11. Has any book ever made you cry? Share a passage or your thoughts on it.

Thank you for reading my answers and I hope those of you nominated enjoy this tag. Please don’t feel obliged to do it but if you do decide to publish the award, please tag me in the post because I would love to read it!

Studious Saturday: Three Bookish Things Book Tag

    studious saturdays

I was tagged by Bibi who you should definitely follow if you aren’t doing so already because her blog is beautiful! I thought long and hard about some of these answers and I think I have finally managed to pick my top three:

Three Read Once and Loved Authors

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris – This book is incredible and Heather Morris is excellent at storytelling. This was her debut and she hasn’t written anything else but if she does I would be one of the first to read it. Find my thoughts on it here.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah – I still remember how this book made me feel even though it has been more than a year since I last read it. It is raw and heart breaking but so worth reading. I haven’t read anything else by this author but I should really look into some of her other books.

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein – It’s no secret to anyone who knows me well that I love dogs and the first person narrative by Enzo here really attracted me to this book. I’d really like to read Racing in the Rain: My Life as a Dog next.

Three Titles I’ve Watched But Haven’t Read

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood – I am a huge fan of this show and was blown away by the ending of the second season but for some reason I still haven’t read the book. It’s on my TBR list but it’s not the usual kind of book I would pick up due to the heavy subject matter so I’m waiting for the right moment when I feel ready to start it.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel – I loved the movie but I’ve also seen lots of negative reviews on the book which makes me question if it is worth reading.

The Bourne Series by Robert Ludlum – Matt Damon feels perfect for the role of Jason Bourne and I thought the movies were exciting and very well executed. However, I have read some passages of the books by Robert Ludlum and I find his writing style and unusual choice of words unappealing so I won’t be reading the series.

    Three Characters You Love

Allan Karlsson – Anyone who has read The Hundred Year old Man who Climbed out of the Window and Disappeared will probably understand why I picked Allan in this category. His quirks and intricacies are delightful and it was a joy following his long and extraordinary journey.

Emma Clifton – You may wonder why I chose Emma over Harry here but bearing in mind how masculine Jeffrey Archer’s novels are, it was refreshing and surprising to read a strong and determined female character.

Robert Langdon – The situations this character gets himself into during Dan Brown’s series are quite incredible and I was in awe of his knowledge and perseverance, especially in Angels and Demons.

    Three Series Binged

The Four Streets Trilogy by Nadine Dorries

    Divergent Series by Veronica Roth

The Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer

    Three Unpopular Bookish Opinions

This is probably the most unpopular opinion for any bookworm but here goes… I don’t have a bookcase or any physical books in my current home! I know – it’s certainly unusual and might seem blasphemous to other readers but unfortunately it’s true. I live in a very small flat which, quite literally, does not have any space for a bookcase even though I love paper books over ebooks. For now, I make do by reading everything on my kindle and hope to one day live in a much larger place with plenty of space for several bookcases.

I can’t watch others bend a book backwards on its spine. It makes me feel so uncomfortable, especially when they then straighten out the page they want to read by running their hand over the inside of the spine!

I have to agree with Bibi on her tag that I also have lots of trouble with DNFing a book. Once I start reading a book I have to finish it otherwise I feel that I am disrespecting the author who has put so much effort into writing it.

    Three Goals for the Year

I hope to achieve my Goodreads challenge of reading 50 books this year. Unfortunately I’m currently 5 books behind schedule but I have been reading a lot lately so I feel it’s still possible!

I’m usually very open to new genres but there are still many genres that I haven’t yet explored and would like to. Sci Fi falls into this category and I already have a few books in my TBR pile that I hope to read this year.

Living in Spain means that I spend most of my time speaking Spanish so this is perhaps the reason I only read in English. However, there are many contemporary Spanish authors who I would like to discover and I hope to do so by the end of this year.

    I tag:

You! If you are reading this and would like to do this tag then please do so! I love reading other people’s choices and this tag is especially fun so I recommend it to anyone interested. Thank you to Bibi for tagging me and to anyone who is reading this and have an amazing weekend!
